The UUCNH Meditation Group will explore the contemplative practice of meditation. Together we will learn and practice various types of meditation, including meditation on breath, mindfulness meditation, and loving-kindness meditation. Sessions will last between 45-60 minutes, 30 of which will consist of guided meditation, with the remaining time reserved for questions and discussion. Please join us; no registration required.
Meditation is an ancient contemplative practice that permeates cultural and religious boundaries, with roots in most faith traditions. It can also be a totally secular practice. While our group will primarily explore meditation practices that are prominent in the Buddhist tradition, these teachings will be applicable to individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs, aligning with our Unitarian Universalist principles of acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.
To begin, we will use guided meditation recordings from the Insight Meditation Center, specifically their Introduction to Mindfulness series. Each recording provides context and basic instruction, with additional guidance throughout the session. A gentle bell will signal the conclusion of the meditation, after which we can take a few minutes to reflect and share our experiences. We may also incorporate a brief loving-kindness meditation at the beginning to help settle and gladden the mind, making it more conducive to mindfulness meditation. Our program will evolve over time, and we welcome feedback and suggestions.
Our group embraces this timeless spiritual practice to foster a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us. Whether you seek insight, relaxation, or a sense of community sitting together in silence, we welcome you to join us on a journey of mindfulness, concentration, and compassion.
