Our UUCNH Farm Stand Project finished its second year at the end of October 2014. From June 8th through October 26th, on 21 consecutive Sundays, UUCNH members, friends and children came together to share our vegetables, peach butter, herbs, flowers, muffins, mulberries, cupcakes, seedlings and CSA shares, to produce over $1800 in donations. These donations benefitted client families at two local food pantries:
North Hills Community Outreach and Northside Common Ministries. We asked that our $904 to each buy food. In NHCO’s hands, $904 buys 1350 large jars of peanut butter and 1350 cans of tuna. In NCM’s hands $904 buys 3616 dozen fresh eggs.
Eggs are not regularly distributed to client families unless there is a sponsor or a special drive to underwrite the distribution. Our donation funds 4 such distributions and buys other food as well. Our little Farm Stand fed families this summer when school lunch programs were suspended. UUCNH members, friends and children lived our mission by sharing our abundance with neighbors who need help with food.
Thanks to all who donated. You are the best.
