Music is Central to UUCNH

We love our music and we have many opportunities for you

Choir

Music is a universal language that expresses emotion and creates a connection between people;  it is part of what binds us together at UUCNH.

Our Music Director, Mary Doubleday, has been leading the UUCNH Choir since Sept. 2000. The choir sings 30 Sundays each year, and at special events. We currently have around 25 members and are always happy to welcome more!  The choir is accompanied by our main pianist, Nick Tiberi.

One of the joys of U.U. churches is that we are not restricted in our sources of inspiration when choosing music.  Our choir has sung a lot of beautiful, traditional church music,  including movements from the Brahms and Mozart Requiems, and anthems by Thomas Tallis and John Rutter.  But we’ve also sung  No One is Alone by Sondheim, Happy by Pharrell Williams, the theme song for  Star Trek, and a women’s choral arrangement of Creep by Radiohead.

Our wonderful pianists, Nick Tiberi, and Hal Dixler, have similar freedom in their choice of repertoire;  they inspire us each Sunday with their selections of classical and popular music. Nick has played concertina and guitar for us as well. And Hal recently celebrated 50 years of playing for UUCNH!

Other Music Groups

We have two other music groups that play on occasion.

The Break Forth Ensemble for instrumentalists is conducted by David Miles.

And the Ukulele Group, is run by Sandy Faulkner.

The ukulele originated in the 19th century and gained great popularity during the early 20th century. Come and see why the uke is now gaining great popularity here at UUCNH. Beginners are welcome.

Contact Mary Doubleday for more information about joining any of our groups. You do not need to be a member of UUCNH to participate!
