There is no social action meeting on Wednesday. Social action meetings are now the third Sunday of each month after the Sunday Service and Coffee Hour.

Church Members only can go to the Members Group for information that is restricted to members only. While we are an open church - there are some nuts and bolts that are interesting to members only. This is where they are kept.

Annual Ingathering Picnic and Service Hours Change

September 12th is our Annual Ingathering Picnic - it follows the 11 AM service (yes we fall back on that day to 11 AM). Please bring a potluck offering to share with your friends. The grill will be hot and there will be cold drinks and coffee for those that want it.

Barnraisers Update

With the fall and prepartion for winter, now is a good time to consider participating in this exciting new group that has been created by UUCNH members. Barnraisers allows folks to share skills with one another. We meet the last Monday of each month and the link will take you to a website with more information. Why not consider participating?

UUCNH is a caring community. We care for each other, our local community, and our world. This is why we conduct a fact-to-face canvass. Our canvass meetings allow us to explore our personal connections here at UUCNH, to discuss our dreams for our congregation, and to learn from each other. These half-hour conversations make us feel more connected and help us to deepen our relationships with each other. When your canvasser calls, please schedule your appointment right away. Canvass meetings are really about relationships -- new, old, and renewed -- and secondarily about the pledge. Enjoy your canvass meetings. These conversations can form part of your treasured connections to your UUCNH community. Rachael Goss, the speaker for this service will explore the intersection between professional life as an activist. She will present some facts about the way the death penalty operates in Pennsylvania, PADP’s state strategy for a moratorium and how her spiritual journey has connected to this important work. She will engage the group in a discussion of a broken system – one that emphasizes retribution and punishment, rather than forgiveness and compassion. Rachael is a community organizer for Pennsylvanians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty PADP and a UU.

Wizard World - Summer Camp for Kids - July 26-30 (6-8 PM)

Through the variety of activities planned for each night of camp, young wizards will experience the transcending mystery and wonder of the universe while concocting potions, engaging in magic movements and creating celestial crafts. Your $25 fee is to help cover the costs of instruction, materials and snacks. This camp is for children as young as 3 years old. Teens and adults are encouraged to participate as counselors and helpers. We invite your entire family to join us for a potluck dinner around the bonfire on Friday, the final evening. All children are welcome.

Being socially and environmentally responsible, all members will want the soft copy of this years annual report. It has been posted to the website in the members area. Members can log in and download it directly. If you are a member and you do not have an account please sign up for one.

Annual Meeting - May 23rd

Unitarian Universalists practice Congregational Polity, meaning that each congregation governs itself, handles their own finances, and calls their own minister. This year, we will be addressing all three of those areas, with nominations for the Board, approval of the 2010/11 budget, and electing members of the Ministerial Search Committee. Please plan to attend on May 23rd after the service. We'll have a brief break and then return to the West Room. Lunch and childcare will be provided. If you can't make it, please review the materials that will be mailed out to all members 10 days in advance. You can complete a Proxy form, appointing another member to cast your votes. If you have any questions, please contact any Board member.

Arts in the Autumn Planning

There will be a brainstorming diner hosted at the Geiger's on April 24 at 7 PM in their home in Bradfordwoods to explore bringing back Arts in the Autumn this year to UUCNH. Arts in the Autumn has been an event in which local artists works have been display at UUCNH and offered for sale. It has been a great way to expose our church to others, support the arts and an effective fund raiser for the church. We need artists, people to help with set-up and tear down, food service help and event support. For more information or to RSVP please contact Diane Robertson or Fred Geiger.

Strive for 5!

It is time to Strive for 5! for 2010-2011! Our annual stewardship campaign is almost here. We kick our campaign off on March 7th and are again asking our members and friends to Strive to give 5% of their income to support the important and exciting work of UUCNH. Our canvass format this year will be a face-to-face canvass. Each of you will be receiving a call in early March to set up a personal canvass meeting. Please set up your meeting as soon as possible as we are conducting a short focused canvass -- ONLY three weeks long! Your canvasser will ask to meet with you for a half an hour - you will discuss the church, get to know each other better and make your generous pledge to UUCNH. We have so many exciting things going on at our church -- new programs, new faces, new members and a world of possibilities for our future. All of these are only dreams without your financial support. We have a very aggressive budget proposed for 2010-11 requiring a 17% increase in pledges. We know we can do it with YOUR help. So please respond quickly to your canvass call, have a in-depth discussion at your canvass meeting and make your generous pledge to UUCNH. Together we can Strive for 5! and expand our good work in the community and beyond. And remember, our campaign is short and focused - March 7th to the 28th. Join us and Strive for 5!

Ohio Meadville District Assembly

The Ohio Meadville District Assembly offers very special programming this year for adults and youth. It takes place Friday evening, March 26 through Saturday afternoon, March 27 in St. Clairesville, OH, about an hour and a half away from UUCNH.

Meg Riley is the theme speaker at District Assembly. She is the Director of Advocacy and Witness for the UUA and is Campaign Director for the UUA’s Standing on the Side of Love campaign.

There is a special Interfaith Youth Leadership Training for youth and youth allies (which can include youth, parents and advisors) through the Interfaith Youth Core. Workshops for youth include; the Interfaith Youth Movement, Dialogue Facilitation and How to Organize Interfaith Service Learning

There are a variety of workshops and forums to participate in, and this is a great way to enlarge your UU world.

Early registration (by February 26) is $55 for adults and $40 for youth. If you are interested in serving as a congregational delegate, registration fees can be paid by the congregation, see Chris Hill. Youth registration fees can be reimbursed through RE, see Greta Porter.

If you are already a member, please plan on attending this important service and the celebration that follows in Friendship Hall afterwards. Visitors are welcome to stay and celebrate with us - it has been reported that we do food very well.

The service and the time after the service will be dedicated to review the settlement process and and then have questions answered by the Reverend Daniel Budd.The Board and Rev. Munson want to stress the importance of this meeting and strong attendance from members and friends.

Everybody knows that most UU's consider themselves to be progressives - well - in that spirit the start time "falls back" on Sunday September 13th to 11 AM for our service start time - weeks before the rest of the country "falls back" from Daylight Savings time.
