Since the
inception of our web site, this page has carried the biography and
philosophy
of our previous minister. However, as of July 15, 2008, she has
resigned and we, the Board of Trustees, are in transition.
Initially, we
will be planning a variety of services, some with ministerial
leadership, some
with other outside speakers, but most
prepared and presented by members of
the congregation. We will be
experimenting with new ideas and formats. It will be an exciting time.
We will
also
begin the process of finding a new minister. As Carol said on
this page,
she was attracted to the UU church by our emphasis on principles,
rather than
doctrinal beliefs. Our fifth principle states that,
as a Unitarian
Universalist congregation, we agree to “the
right of conscience and use of the
democratic process within our congregation, our ethical and spiritual
lives,
and in society at large.”
We invite you, then, to watch us apply this, and all of our
other
principles, first as we create our own services and then as we search
for,
find, and welcome a new minister.
In the
meantime,
we will probably appear to visitors as a swan swimming upstream:
composed and
graceful above water, paddling like mad underneath.
Committees already do
much of the church's work and will continue to. The process
of calling a
minister is well-established and we've done it before—nine
years ago, in fact.
And we have a history of presenting many lay-led services, if
only
because we so value diversity. We'll be doing many more in
the coming
year. Ultimately
all facets of the UUCNH
complex of ministries are the responsibility of the congregation, so we
are
pretty well accustomed to ministering to, and by, ourselves.
So come
visit to
watch us swim, join us to help paddle, or simply watch here to see how
it's
going. We'll keep you informed.
